The Pfizer COVID vaccine has now been approved for emergency use authorization in children ages 5 and up. The vaccine has been shown to be both safe and effective. The vaccine is now available at our office for children ages 5-11 years old and you may call to schedule an appointment. Children age 5-11 will be receiving a dose that is 1/3 of the dose given to those age 12 and up. They will receive a 2 dose series 21 days apart. When you call to schedule an appointment you will be scheduled for the first dose and the 2nd dose 21 days later. There are no restrictions about other vaccines being given at the same time and there is no interval needed between the covid vaccine and other childhood vaccines. It is possible to have the covid vaccine at the same time as a flu vaccine. At this time Children age 12 and up will still need to get the vaccine at pharmacies or other community localizations. The vaccine for those age 12 and over is readily available without any wait time by calling your local pharmacy. Please click on the following links for more information about the vaccine.
